Gym-Kat’s preschool program works on basic gymnastic skills. Your little tumbler will be introduced to socialization skills, listening and learning skills, gym safety and awareness all while gaining coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility.
Our preschool program is designed for children ages one (walking) through four years of age. All classes are progressional structured with a goal of developing kindergarten readiness, basic gymnastic skills, fine and gross motor skills, listening skills, and a sense of independence while away from parents in the gym while in a safe and fun filled environment.
TUMBLE TOTS-This is a 100% parent participation class designed for 1,2 and 3yo. This class, for most children, is an introduction into the world of other people in a classroom setting. For most, it can come with an adjustment period. You can expect lots of tears and the feeling of embarrassment for you as a parent. Please have patience in the process and don’t be discouraged for this is very normal, for example: crying, no desire to participate, or struggling with separation. It does get better!!!!! We want your little one to have fun while meeting & interacting with other children. This is a parent/child class where the parents will do most of the work and us coaches will interact as tolerated by the child. IT IS NOT FREE TIME, but we do understand that they can have little independent desires. Our expectation of this class is that after the group warm up, they will move throughout the gym from station to station learning to follow instructions as well as wait on a circle for their turn. Between stations there will be a brief circle time designed to regain focus before the next station. Ending back in the middle with a group cool down and a stamp to go home.
JUNIOR JUMPERS – This is a 50% parent/ 50% coach class designed for 2,3, and 4yos. This class, for some children, is an introduction into the world of other people in a classroom setting. For some, it can come with an adjustment period. You can expect some tears as we start the process of transitioning parents out of the gym with an end goal of doing class 100% without the parent in the gym. This class is designed to start more coach and less parent interaction, as they are still little and could still need some parent assistance. Our expectation of this class is that after the group warm up, they will move throughout the gym from station to station learning to follow instructions as well as wait on a circle for their turn. While the coach is helping the kids with the stations, the parent will need to help their child sit and wait for their turn. Towards the end of this age group, when the child is going to transition into the Mighty Movers, there might be a period when the coach asks for you as a parent to start in the lobby and step in once the child’s attention span runs out or they become a distraction. This helps ensure that the child is ready to make the transition to the Mighty Movers class all while allowing us to love our entire class equally. Between stations there will be a brief circle time designed to regain focus before the next station. Ending back in the middle with a group cool down and a stamp to go home. At this age, the child will start to learn more gymnastics skills that will be developed further in the Mighty Movers class.
MIGHTY MOVERS – This is a 100% coach participation class designed for 3 and 4yos to be viewed by parents from the lobby. This class will serve as an introduction into the world of the main gym. This will be their first real class where we ask parents to refrain from entering the gym. Our expectation of this class is that after the group warm up, they will move throughout the gym from station to station following instructions, taking turns, as well as learning to stand in line. On top of the procedures and skills designed for the younger classes, this one adds kindergarten readiness and gymnastics skills that will be continued into the main gym and throughout life. In this class, the kids will learn how to celebrate one another’s victories and follow multiple directions given by their coach all while practicing their abilities with independence. At this stage we are looking that they can keep their body parts to themselves, go to the bathroom independently and enjoy the entire hour with their coach. The end goal of this class is to transition the child into the main gym. This transition could look like taking trips into the main gym.
