Gym-Kat’s preschool program works on basic gymnastic skills. Your little tumbler will be introduced to socialization skills, listening and learning skills, gym safety and awareness all while gaining coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility.
Here at Gym-Kat Sports Center, our preschool program focuses on so much more than just beginner gymnastics. Often times, these classes are a child’s first experience with social interaction outside of their normal surroundings and we aim to make it a fun and easy transition by creating an environment that feels safe and comfortable.
Our preschoolers have their own gym, filled with size and age appropriate equipment, because we believe that children should experience the excitement of learning without feeling anxious or overwhelmed. By keeping class sizes small, our coaches are able to build relationships with each and every child and challenge them to learn through both physical and mental tasks. Our coaches integrate things like colors and numbers, recognizing animals and animal sounds, and even left side of the body versus right side of the body awareness all while focusing on the fundamentals of movement, gross motor skills, and entry level gymnastics.
Doodle Bugs (walking to 18 months) and Caterpillars (18 months to 2 1/2 years)
In these 30 minute “co-taught” classes, parents, work alongside the coach to provide a sense of security and offer encouragement while their child is being integrated into a structured class. With the help of Mom or Dad, these classes strongly promote self-discovery all while focusing on basic movements such as running, jumping, throwing, climbing, and crawling. And the best part is that you’ll be along for the ride to watch your child blossom and grow in this fun and exciting entry level class.
Doodle Bugs | Walking to 18 mos. with the emphasis on the parent assisting the child familiarizing themselves with the coach.
Caterpillars | 18 mos. to 2.5 years old with the emphasis on the coach instructing the student and the parent to be the disciplinarian.
Tadpoles (2 1/2 years to 3 1/2 years) and Frogs (3 1/2 years to 5 years)
In these 45 minutes classes, our preschoolers leave their parents and work solely with their coach on learning beginner gymnastics skills. Working separately from the parents allows the child to feel independent and, as studies show, ultimately increases their self-confidence. In these classes, our preschoolers learn all the fundamentals of gymnastics, how to land on their stomach or back, and somersaults such as front rolls and back rolls. Double Mini Skills – differentiating mounting skills from dismount skills, skill sets done in both 3 bounces and 2 bounces, and transitioning to front somersaults and back somersaults.
